Republic Polytechnic’s School of Applied Science, signs MOU with Shimadzu (Asia-Pacific) for training and collaborative research projects

 

Republic Polytechnic (RP) has joined hands with Shimadzu (Asia Pacific) to set up a training and research laboratory facility for Pre-employment Training (PET) as well as Continuing Education and Training (CET)

Singapore, 7th November 2019: Republic Polytechnic’s School of Applied Science has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Shimadzu (Asia Pacific) Pte Ltd, the leading subsidiary of the 144-year-old global analytical instrument leader Shimadzu Corporation, to set up a research laboratory facility for Pre-employment Training (PET) as well as Continuing Education and Training (CET) curriculum delivery.

Aptly named S.T.A.R (Sustainable Technology & Analytical Research) Laboratory, the proposed laboratory will not only be a training centre for RP students and industry partners but will also serve as a research and development laboratory for sustainable resources research.  This is in line with the United Nations sustainable development goals committed by the Singapore government.  Some of the projects will be in the research areas of sustainable materials, functional foods (Healthy Aging) and urban farming.

As part of the new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), some of the tools Shimadzu supports will include Liquid Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS), Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometer, Fourier Transform-Infra Red (FTIR) Spectrometer as well as integrated laboratory solutions. The new state-of-art analytical instruments managed by Analytical Intelligence (A.I) serves as a learning platform for students and laboratory technicians to learn about laboratory informatics and the use of modern analytical instrumentation.
